Reflexology

Reflexology is a manual massage technique which applies appropriate pressure on the feet, hands, head or ears. In doing so, the treatment restores the natural psycho-physical balance and harmony, which should belong to every individual.

Foot reflexology is the application of the treatment specifically to the foot. In particular, there are several reflex areas in each foot connected to every part of the body. Collectively, they reflect both the organism at a physical level and the individual at an emotional level. The theory of foot reflexology also draws on Traditional Chinese Medicine, which takes a holistic view of the human being, seeing it as a single entity comprised of a body, a mind and a spirit. Through foot massage, you stimulate all the vital functions of your entire organism.

Through a massage of the various zones of the foot is possible to identify which parts of your body are in disharmony with the rest, and if there are energetic and emotional blocks that prevent you from reaching your full performance. The aim of the treatment is to loosen any tension, reduce any imbalances and help restore the proper circulation of information through your nervous, immune and endocrine systems, in order to regain your natural inner balance.

A foot reflexology treatment therefore is an opportunity to prevent ailment and improve your overall health.

You receive the treatment wearing comfortable clothes.

The treatment is not a substitute for medical diagnosis and therapy.

Historical notes on Foot Reflexology:

Ever since ancient times in Egyptian, Indian, African and Chinese traditional medicine, feet and hands have been treated for therapeutic purposes.

The modern discipline of foot reflexology is associated with the American physician William H. Fitzgerald (1872-1942), who combined his knowledge of Otolaryngology with that of traditional Chinese medicine and various acupressure techniques to lay the foundations of "zone theory".

Zone therapy divides the body into 10 longitudinal zones, separated by lines starting from the toes and fingers and meeting at the top of the skull. By projecting these lines, Fitzgerald identified the area of the foot corresponding to each organ.

Subsequent contributions to his technique were made in the years that followed; among the most important were: Eunice Ingham's, who verified and updated the maps, and Hanne Marquardt's who introduced a transversal subdivision of the foot into four areas, corresponding to the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis.

Thanks to two students of E. Ingham (H. Marquardt and D. Bayly), who respectively  founded important schools in Germany and England in the 60s, reflexology was able to spread in Europe. In Italy, Elipio Zamboni was one of the pioneers of foot reflexology.
